Feasibility Study: The First Step
A feasibility study is an indispensable tool in preparing for a successful capital campaign. It is a strategic process used to discover from your key constituency the likelihood and amount of probable support for your institution. This includes discovering how these donors view your institution and leadership. A carefully planned and properly executed study will determine the readiness and likelihood of successfully implementing a campaign.
Because fundraising is a people-to-people process, the essence of the feasibility study consists of a series of in-depth, personal, confidential, fact-finding interviews with a targeted cross-section of an organization’s key internal and external constituents. Crandall, Croft and Associates will work with your leadership to develop the case for support, questionnaire, other supporting documents and to develop a list of prospects for inclusion in the study.
We believe there are several key purposes for conducting a feasibility study:
- To determine the interest and advisability of conducting the campaign;
- To make recommendations for carrying out the campaign, including suggesting an appropriate goal;
- To introduce the campaign to your best prospects;
- To solicit input into the shaping of the campaign;
- Cultivating those interviewed to be receptive to giving a gift to the campaign at a later date;
- To discover the general gift level each interviewee might consider towards the proposed campaign;
- To identify the key volunteer leadership for the campaign;
- To learn the community perception of the organization and its services;
- To learn the community perception of the leadership of the organization.
There are many additional things that can be learned through a well-designed study that will be helpful to the fundraising efforts of the organization.
Upon completion of the interviews and analysis, a comprehensive written report will be prepared detailing the study findings and offering professional opinions and recommendations relative to conducting a successful capital campaign, including a suggested campaign goal.
